The Brain Circle

The Brain Circle (BC) is an intellectual endeavor bringing together an exclusive group of friends interested in learning more about the brain. The BC is a European project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and members from across the continent.

The BC aims to encourage an ongoing sharing of information about brain related issues between BC members and scientists from the Hebrew University’s Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences (ELSC) in an open, intimate and stimulating environment.

Academically, the Brain Circle is led by BC founding member, Prof. Idan Segev together with ELSC’s Academic Directors, Prof. Israel Nelken and Adi Mizrahi.

A core activity of the Brain Circle is the annual BC Meeting, a week-end long retreat organized in an attractive venue, offering members the opportunity to learn, through scientific lectures and discussions, about the latest most exciting findings and subjects of research related to the brain.

The Brain Circle was conceived in 2004 at the Chateau Lafitte Estate, hosted by Baron Eric de Rothschild.

BC members only

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences believe that only with a circle of many brains can we achieve the vital breakthroughs in brain research necessary for a comprehensive understanding of the Brain.

Thus, we strive to collaborate with like minded research centers around the world as well as with groups of enthusiastic friends and supporters who share the same dream - understanding the enigma of our brain as an important step towards developing cures to brain related diseases.

Your membership in the Brain Circle will make you a partner in breaking research frontiers and in curing devastating neurological diseases; it will enable you to have an open dialogue with ELSC researchers who specialize in a variety of research areas, including dysfunctions and illnesses (such as Parkinson’s disease, dyslexia, and stress, memory and movement disorders) on the one hand, and unraveling the operation of human senses such as vision, hearing and of creative pursuits, on the other hand.

BC members commit themselves to supporting ELSC with an annual donation of $10,000 per year over the course of five years.
Members who complete their 5 year commitment and continue to support ELSC will have their names inscribed on the wall of the new building of the Center in Jerusalem inaugurated in June 2017.

Your support will be dedicated to helping ELSC doctoral students and fellows, towards research activities at various ELSC laboratories (including the purchase of necessary state-of-the-art equipment), and towards interaction and
collaboration with other top research centers via scientific meetings and international exchange programs.
