‘Want to quit smoking? We have an app for that’

Jerusalem, July 8, 2012—On Monday, July 9, the Hebrew University's School of Public Health, in cooperation with Hadassah Medical Organization and The Medical Society for Smoking Prevention and Cessation in Israel, will hold a conference on smoking cessation using modern communications techniques.

The main lecture, "Using Mobile Phones for Smoking Cessation," will be delivered in English by Dr. Lorien Abroms from George Washington University. Dr. Abroms' research focuses on the application of communication technologies—including emails, text messaging, and smartphone apps—for smoking cessation and other health behaviors. She has developed and evaluated several smoking cessation programs, including a text-messaging program for adult smokers that is currently offered to callers in selected states, an iPhone app for smoking cessation, and a smoking cessation kit for young adults.
